How things have changed after working in the industry for over 3 decades now, it seems that home digital networks have become far more complex than ever before. With so many different devices now connected, a typical domestic setup can be frustrating to manage, especially if tech is not your thing.
Earlier this year I was ask to take a look at a home network that had a few issues, and after performing a network scan and a hand full of other tests, it appeared that almost everthing IoT (internet of things) was connected. So here is a list of all the different devices that are usually found:
Home computers
Laptops
Phones
Tablets
Printers
Thermostats
Smart speakers
Lighting controllers
Televisions
Chromecasts & Firesticks
CCTV systems
Alarm Systems
Garden Robots
Vacuum Robots
Solar Panel controller
Games consoles
SkyQ boxes
EV chargers
Sonos Speakers
Now with all that going on, a home network may start to struggle with connections, resulting in problems, such as smartphone apps not working, or the CCTV images not being available to view or even no alerts from the robotic vacuum cleaner to say that the hopper is full.
Other issues I’ve come across include: devices randomly disappearing off the network, and SkyQ boxes dropping connection while being viewed - the list goes on. I’m sure you get the point.
However don’t despair, as most home network issues can be quickly identified if you have the right tools.
If you don’t have the right tools we can help, diagnose the problem and offer the solution, which a lot of times ends up being something quite minor causing a huge problem.
To help us get to the source of trouble we use have some marvellous kit at our disposal , such as cables testers that find breaks in cables that cant be seen with the naked eye, and network scanners that can find network devices that you didn't
know were even there.
So if gremlins are cropping up, and you’ve tried everything to can , get in touch with our team so we can work a little magic. Spike
